  1. Food

2013

I began pursuing an interest in food photography in October 2013. I expect my photographs to need a lot of improvement, and am excited to see where my interest takes me!

  • Thanks to the internet, I now live in a world where oatmeal isn't solely a grey, flavorless paste. I now have an understanding that it doesn't have to be made tolerable only by heaps of sugar. I admit, after I grew up and started being responsible for all of my own food, I too made unexciting oatmeal for breakfast (even though it wasn't good.) But, after many bowls of sorrow, I've learned a better way.

Friends don't let friends eat sub-par oats. And, because I'm your friend, I'm sharing this recipe with you.

  • My first crack at homemade oreos. They need some work, but I think the potential is there to make something pretty delish!

  • Who needs a pour-over when you have a canning funnel? I think I might have to actually go buy coffee making equipment soon.
Ever since I broke my one person french press a couple weeks ago, life just hasn't been the same!

  • More chai tea maple and honey marshmallows.

Many thanks to my lovely assistant John for taking this photograph!

  • Homemade chai tea marshmallows with honey and maple syrup.

Sometimes, when you're making things at home, you run into things that blow their store-bought counterparts out of the water.

Homemade marshmallows are one of those things.

These smell heavily of maple, and spongy and fresh, and are so good they make me want to never buy marshmallows again. I did roast one over my stove - and I imagine a s'more with a homemade graham cracker (and maybe some fruit, like a roasted, chopped up strawberry?) would pretty much change s'mores forever. I've made the traditional marshmallows with corn syrup before, and I think that if I forever traded honey/maple for corn syrup marshmallows I'd never miss them! Next I need to start doing all-honey, and all-maple, and then adding swirls of caramel to the pan!
