  1. Photography Projects

365 Project - The Other Side of the Lens.

Nervously, and with a lot of prayer, I began this project January 7, 2012. I joined up with a group of strangers on http://www.mavenforums.com and for an entire year, we watched people come and go, got to know each others families, and marveled at each other's photos. It was an incredible experience and did so much for me that I wasn't expecting. It ended up being an expression of self like I'd never done before. 367 photos later, my perspective on self portraits, the internet, and photography was changed. I had made new friends all over the world, and even met with some of them in person. Every photo has a story, and a memory, and when I look through them I feel a deep satisfaction. Many thanks to Michael for putting for the effort to get us all shooting self portraits, and many thanks to all my friends who motivated me for an entire year! It's made a world of difference. With your positivity and motivation, you've inspired me and built confidence in me, and I know that as a photographer I'll never be the same. Below, the photos are the visible fruits of our labors and prayers, but the real benefit only I really know. Thank you, and enjoy!

    April 12, 2012. Day 97.
Third photo of tea in a row...

More pictures of tea?
Sometimes creative juices
Brew for 4-6.

    April 13, 2012. Day 98.

Feel no obligation to read this, but I'll tell you guys the story.
So, there I was, driving around Wasilla at sundown trying to find a place for a portrait. After seriously considering trespassing on railroad property, I moved on and then came to a paved cul-de-sac with no houses built. I jumped out of my car and pulled open the back door expecting two tripods and my camera bag. What I didn't realize was that I did indeed have two tripods in the car... the other car. I slung my bag onto my back and proceeded to punch through crunchy springtime snow in my flip flops, until shortly I came to a large dry spot. I had no idea what I was doing, and ended up just balancing my husband's flash on the camera bag and putting my camera on the ground. I mean, of course, I knocked the flash over, but for the most part it stayed up there. Then I flipped my hair 100 times. Alone. In Wasilla. Near a busy road. Thankfully I was tucked behind the trees just slightly, but it DID look a little ridiculous!

Oops, no tripods! Or closed toed shoes... But praise God for the photo, cause I had no idea what was going on!

Stomping through springtime,
As the sun is going down,
Over crispy snow.

Gah! The worst part of this photo isn't the bad framing, or that Sandra is sitting on me. It's that our friends Joanna and Quaylin aren't in it! They were there at the summit, and I'm so bummed they're not being subjected to my blinding flash going in bizarre directions.

 Doh! I botched that one!
 There was definitely more
