  1. Photography Projects

365 Project - The Other Side of the Lens.

Nervously, and with a lot of prayer, I began this project January 7, 2012. I joined up with a group of strangers on http://www.mavenforums.com and for an entire year, we watched people come and go, got to know each others families, and marveled at each other's photos. It was an incredible experience and did so much for me that I wasn't expecting. It ended up being an expression of self like I'd never done before. 367 photos later, my perspective on self portraits, the internet, and photography was changed. I had made new friends all over the world, and even met with some of them in person. Every photo has a story, and a memory, and when I look through them I feel a deep satisfaction. Many thanks to Michael for putting for the effort to get us all shooting self portraits, and many thanks to all my friends who motivated me for an entire year! It's made a world of difference. With your positivity and motivation, you've inspired me and built confidence in me, and I know that as a photographer I'll never be the same. Below, the photos are the visible fruits of our labors and prayers, but the real benefit only I really know. Thank you, and enjoy!

    March 4, 2012. Day 58.
Catching the sunset in my sunglasses in front of a rather large wall of ice along the highway.

Sunset's sinking slow,
Nature's charms are all aglow

    March 6, 2012. Day 59.

Me and a moose foot. I figure this one's odd enough to require an explanation!

After our monthly Water rescue meeting, a group of us responders went out to go remove a dead moose from the lake outside one of our captain's homes. It was partially frozen into the ice and took a little finessing to get out (those things are big - and this one wasn't full grown!) I took pictures while everyone else did the hard work! I asked my chief (Cliff) for the two front legs, because there's a bone in there that makes great hairsticks. He then not only sawed off the two front legs for me, but also skinned them and peeled out the bones I wanted right there on the tailgate of his truck. What an awesome dude!

John Borland wrote today's haiku for me, and it was so much better than mine I went ahead and used it! Thanks for the poem, love!

A hoof in the hand
Is worth two in the bushes,
Or so they all say.

Having a little trouble firing our flash, but it worked enough for this!

When there's no time for -
Grand adventuresome portraits,
Low key works just fine!
